I am a psychologist specializing in well-being in later life. As an Emerita Professor of Psychology at West Chester University of PA and long-time coordinator of the WHO and AARP Livable Communities Project, I have extensive experience helping older adults manage the challenges of later life.
I teach, conduct research, write, give lectures, and work with individuals, groups, and communities to help boost resilience, prevent loneliness and social isolation, and manage grief, loss, and personal and cultural bereavement.
My work focuses on understanding and supporting individuals and groups as they navigate later-life transitions. I help older adults develop strategies that aid in adapting to change by fostering meaningful personal, intergenerational, community, and cultural connections that promote engagement, resilience, and life satisfaction.
By exploring both the day-to-day and existential aspects of life, I provide information and support that aid in enhancing well-being through physical and social activity, engagement in personal and cultural rituals, healing time in nature, and creating and making use of supportive “third spaces.”
I have written four books and dozens of research articles and essays on these important topics. I also write a blog for Psychology Today, "Live Long and Prosper," https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/live-long-and-prosper
